Here is what the Lowcountry Companion has to say...
SaraBeth’s Gifts & Home is a boutique featuring unique gifts and home accents. They are located inside The Medicine Shoppe pharmacy located in the Food Lion center at 1061 North Fraser Street in Georgetown. It may not seem a likely spot for retail but just wait until you walk inside. Several words come to mind swiftly – unpretentious, charming, colorful, welcoming and reasonably priced.
Here’s a tidbit of background. Some moons ago and for more than a dozen years, Beth Ness owned Added Touch, a women’s wear shop on Front Street. But time tends to shift things up and she ultimately left the shop to tend to growing children and to help her pharmacist husband, Phillip Ness. If you’re from around here, odds are quite good you know them. The “Sara” in SaraBeth’s is the 18-year-old daughter about to head off to college. There’s an older son, too. His name is Will – as in the Will Ness Band. Find the band’s Facebook page and check out their new album, Heaven in Disguise!
Anyway, Beth clearly hasn’t lost her sense of style. Previously this section of the pharmacy was dedicated to diabetic shoes and other health-related gear but the ongoing changes in Medicare and insurance frustrated her and started her wheels turning about doing something different with the space. And boy did she do it up right – with the help of Sara, that is!
It’s a relatively small space, but it’s so airy and colorful and just plain happy, the size serves nothing so much as cozying up the pharmacy. She says she goes and picks up whatever catches her eye – it doesn’t have to fit a particular purpose or theme. That means it’s tough to be concise about the inventory. So, since this is our first go at describing the place, we’re going to string a bunch of fun stuff together to get you planning a visit.
There are home accessories, lots of them. Pillows, Crow Canyon Enamelware, Local artwork, candles and soaps and air fresheners. (Dare we mention the oh-so popular Pot Pourri toilet spray. Google it if you don’t know the details.) There are select pieces of women’s wear – this writer came home with a couple of too-pretty-to-pass-up pieces. Loved the Girl with a Pearl jewelry. Lots of vases and serving trays, lamps and more, more, more!
Melamine by QSquared NYC is moving like hotcakes. It’s a beautiful selection of tableware and serving pieces that mixes with other patterns well and make perfect, reasonably priced wedding gifts. And speaking of weddings, the bridal registry is growing fast. There’s lots more to share, and we’ll do just that in our next issue. But for goodness sake, don’t wait. Come browse, meet the family, leave a gift or two for wrapping then buy your groceries, pick up your goods and head home happy. Sarabeth’s is on Facebook (check out the pictures!), a website is underway and the phone number is 843.546.2880.
